SOC 35337 Race, Ethnic and Gender Issues in Modern Society

Designed to develop the student's awareness of his/her own identity in terms of ethnicity and to enhance a positive sense and recognition of the different experiences and values of the diverse minority groups within American society. Examines the beliefs and values which are embedded in various types of stereotypes and prejudice. Ethnic minority groups such as African Americans, Hispanic Americans and Asian Americans will be studied. Also theoretical and social issues on women as a minority will be discussed. Prerequisite: SOC 35101 (F, even years)
