CIP: 520301

Students choosing a comprehensive major in Accounting must complete the Common Professional Component courses and earn a minimum grade of “C” in each of the courses listed below for the public accounting track or private industry track.

The public accounting track is designed to prepare students for careers in public accounting and/or to take the examination to become a Certified Public Accountant (CPA). Students wishing to take the CPA examination in Missouri, Nebraska, Iowa, and Kansas must have 150 credit hours. The student should complete the public accounting track and continue with an additional 26 hours of coursework to be eligible to sit for the CPA examination. Most students will choose to earn an MBA. (See Northwest Missouri State University Graduate Catalog and your advisor.)

The private industry track is designed to prepare students for careers in management accounting and to take the examination to become a Certified Management Accountant (CMA).

Students wishing to double-major in the public and private accounting tracks will be required to complete an additional six unique credit hours in Accounting, Economics, or Finance, 300-level or above, for the second major.
