GEOL 27212 Historical Geology

This course employs a study of deep time, important rock units, plate tectonics and the fossil and stratigraphic records to illuminate the physical and biological evolution of Earth. Special emphasis is placed on the formation and subsequent physical evolution of North America, and the origin and evolution of life as understood from evidence in the fossel record. The course consists of three lectures per week and concurrent enrollment in the weekly two-hour laboratory. Prerequisite: 27-110/111 or 27-114/115. (S)
