HIST 33623 Early American Republic
This course surveys the social and cultural history of the United States from the Constitution to the Age of Jefferson. During this tumultuous period inhabitants of the nation debated the future of race-based slavery, died in yellow fever epidemics, discussed the role of women, and tried to come to some consensus about what it meant to be an American. Their questions and answers as well as successes and failures continue to shape the United States in the twenty-first century.
