EDCI 62303 Observation and Assessment in Infant Toddler Settings

This course is designed to enable candidates to develop a knowledge base to purposefully assess children's developmental characteristics and learning outcomes and implement intervention strategies to maximize development and learning in young children.  Emphasis in this course is on assessment tools and methodologies specific to use with children birth through age three.  Developmentally appropriate methods of collecting data for decision-making as well as analysis and interpretation of observation and assessment results will be stressed to ensure competence of candidates in meeting state learning standards and national guidelines for appropriate practices. The role of the family in assessment, including the impact of cultural, economic, and linguistic diversity are central components of this course.  Prerequisite:  EDCI 62119.  Corequisites:  EDCI 62202 or EDCI 62203, and EDCI 62231, EDCI 62302, and EDCI 62304.
